Alaska and US Congress enacted statutory priorities for subsistence uses in the allocation of fish and game under certain circumstances. However it was recognised that more research data was needed on these uses. The following report examines the human ecology and subsistence system of hunting and fishing in Alaska. Subsistence economic are understood as non-codified systems of production, distribution and consumption which facilitate harvest, use and exchange of renewable resources. the report identifies some of the components that are essential for effective management.
