Angling Projects

Established in 1976, Angling projects run by Les Webber MBE is the longest running angling intervention project working with young people. It offers free accommodation and fishing sessions drawing in youth groups from all over the country and is staffed completely by volunteers.

CAST

CAST was established as a project in Newstead Village in 2001, but now operates across the wider Nottingham area. It was recently involved in the successful village SOS bid and is working to develop long disused mining land to provide a fishery, music and education venue for the local community.

For Life Experinces

Based at Greenridge Farm Fishery just outside of Southampton, For Life Experience is a social enterprise that aims to introduce people of all ages to the positive benefits of fishing and outdoor education.

They work with families and groups of young people delivering both on site and across south England and Norfolk.

GHOF Midlands (Birmingham)

GHOF Midlands (Birmingham) was established in 2002 and is run by Andy Walker. It is one of the many programmes that operates under the umbrella organisation Angling Unlimited.

GHOF Bolton

GHOF Bolton is run by female angling coach Bridget Dawson. Established in 2008, the project works with schools, inclusion teams, and local youth groups to offer coarse angling sessions and the GHOF modules. The modules include both practical and class based learning around angling techniques, fish welfare and the environment.

GHOF Crewe

Dave Smith coordinates the GHOF scheme at Border Fisheries in Crewe. The project works with young people from local schools and particularly those with disabilities.

GHOF Ealing

GHOF Ealing is the most recently established GHOF project. Set up under the guidance of GHOF founder Mick Watson it aims to become a self sustaining social enterprise within three years.

GHOF Easington

GHOF Easington is one of two principle case study sites for the young people's section of the research. This has meant multiple visits to the project since the research began in May 2009.

GHOF Flintshire

GHOF Flintshire (Wales) was officially launched in July 2010. It is an initiative of the Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association (FNWA). The project is run by FNWA employee Allan Ellis and provides angling opportunities, peer mentoring and GHOF modules to young people in the local area.

GHOF Liverpool

GHOF Liverpool is one of our key research site for exploring the theme of peer mentoring. The project is coordinated by Peter Henery and runs inunder youth intervention project Positive Future North Liverpool. One of the advantages of this relationship is access to the positive Futures building which serves as a drop in point for the young people in the area.
