Social v solo

Motivation 110

I find fishing a way of escape and it's good to experience nature and the scenery is always nice. Catching a fish of any size is just a bonus and no matter the size it always gives a thrill to hear the alarm scream off and the hanger to shoot up. It's like a sudden boost of adrenaline. Fishing also has a social side which I like but I try to be independent most of the time.

Angling varies from the social to solo, depends which type of fishing or where I go / what mood I'm in.

Motivation 21

Sometimes I fish on my own, sometimes I need the company; but what ever I choose it must be enjoyable.

Motivation 23

I go to the gym and cycle for physical activity. I fish for different reasons. I enjoy the discipline and challenge of match fishing; but a day alone on a canal, watching nature, catching fish is enjoyable for a different reason - no pressure, no demands, no-one telling you what to do, when to do it and at the end of the day satisfaction, or frustration - you just don't know which it will be when you set out.

Motivation 31

Although most of my fishing is in a competitive environment, I do still enjoy solo outings - pleasure fishing with no pressure to perform or win. I still enjoy admiring the fish that I catch and enjoying being at one with nature. I think too many anglers these days have a 'win at all cost' mentality and don't care as much about the fish as in years gone by, for example the F1 carp hybrid !!! To catch 100 lb every time you go fishing would soon become very boring but that's sadly what many anglers want these days.

Motivation 32

I fish in angling club matches where it is obviously important to catch the most/biggest weight of fish; also enjoying the competitive experience. However when pleasure fishing I enjoy more the peaceful/natural surroundings and seeing the wildlife, picking venues that are more pleasing to the eye and of course catching some fish hopefully, which may involve fishing for a particular species of fish. Sometimes I practice for matches on new venues where I am trying to develop my skills and knowledge.

Motivation 53

I enjoy meeting with other anglers on the riverbank and chatting with them. However I do prefer actually fishing on my own because I can then move swims whenever I wish and I can fish whenever I wish without having to discuss times and where to go with others.

Motivation 76

When I'm coaching there is a lot of activity on the banks due to the number of people we coach. For my own personal fishing I like solitude and peace and tranquility. I occasionally fish with some friends but we can fish for 3 or 4 days together and hardly speak to each other. Knowing they are there is great but we don't always feel like we need to speak. We enjoy being together and enjoy the moments of triumph together even though we may not speak for hours.
