Environment Agency

This reports relates to the study of economic evaluation of inland fisheries produced for the Environment Agency. In looking at the economic impact of freshwater angling, the research had the following objectives, namely to:

  • estimate annual expenditure on different types of freshwater angling in each region of England and Wales.
  • estimate the impact on regional economies of potential increases and decreases in different types of freshwater angling, identifying the contribution made by tourism.

The above objectives were further refined with respect to regions and type of angling, fish (coarse, trout and salmon & sea trout) and the study was required to provide estimates categorised by type of surface water (rivers, still waters, canals).
